Apr 19, 2016 | Information

Spring has arrived and brought about warmer weather and- yup, you guessed it, Allergies!

Did you know that your AC may be contributing to a large number of allergy symptoms? Take a closer look at what is going on in your home and you’ll find that rountine maintenance on your equipment should include more than just a simple tune up. Here are some common problems to look for along with great tips to get you ready for Allergy Season!

Be aware of the type of allergens living in your home!

FILTERS: DUST

What are the worst types of bunnies? Dust Bunnies! As you all know, a filters job is to remove unwanted particles from the air. Dust is usually the first substance that comes to mind when discussing filters, however, they can be cluttered with other allergens such as pet dander and pollen. Your typical seasonal issues such as itchy, watery eyes or nose, sneezing, coughing, and even headaches can all be exacerbated by dusty filters.

Tip #1: Change Your Filters!

DUCTWORK: MOLD

What is worse than dust bunnies? Mold! It is one of the most dangerous household allergens and is harmful to both the home and those living in it. Mold can start in the ductwork and quickly spread spores throughout the home. Ductworks do not require as much upkeep and maintenance as filters do but it can be highly beneficial to have them cleaned out due to increased levels of moisture in the spring. Headaches and dizziness are among the most common sysptoms. Those with upper respiratory diseases and compromised immune systems can expect more serious reactions. When was the last time the ductwork in your home was cleaned? If you can’t answer this question, it might be time for an inspection.

Tip #2: Check The Condition of Your Ductwork!

DRAIN PANS AND CONDENSATION LINES: HUMIDITY

Indiana may not get near as humid as Florida does, but it sure has its days. Moisture levels begin to rise in the Spring and peak in the Summer months and though Humidity alone does not cause allergies, it does provide a nice, cozy place for mold to develop and makes it easier for dust and other bothersome particles to move around, which can trigger allergy symptoms. Check for leaky drain pans and clogged condensation lines, as they can cycle damp air through your AC vents!

Tip #3: Check for Moisture!

It is always best to be mindful of what is going on in your home, especially if you or someone in your household has a weakened immune system or is prone to allergies. Stay ahead of the game and make the best of the warm weather approaching!
