What is a dehumidifier and how does it work?
Dehumidification is key to achieving more efficiency in your home and improving indoor air quality. When you use a dehumidifier you are removing moisture in the air, and moisture control can make a home more comfortable. This method is most commonly used in a basement or crawl space and can help improve insulation function, prevent mold, wood rot, and metal corrosion.
The principle that the cooler the air is the less amount of moisture it can hold is used by dehumidifiers. An example of this is when an ice-cold glass of water releases moisture on a hot day.
Within a dehumidifier, a fan blows the humid air across a metal coil filled with a cold refrigerant, which is also used in a refrigerator and air conditioner. Once the air comes into contact with the coil the water condenses and drips to a reservoir built into the dehumidifier.
Top-quality dehumidifiers provide the best value
Similar to other household appliances some dehumidifiers are better than others. The majority of standard model dehumidifiers sold by other appliance dealers do not have the capacity to provide a long-term solution for your home. However, Indiana Home Comfort Solutions has exclusive access to top of the line products. These dehumidifiers outperform the other models and are designed to solve the high-moisture and lower-temperature environment in your crawl spaces and basements. A high-quality (MERV-11) air filter has been added to the unit, providing the XP with the tools to remove dust and allergens from the air.
If you discover that there is a moisture problem in your crawl space, Indiana Home Comfort Solutions has additional materials such as sealing and waterproofing products, and low-profile dehumidifiers and more.
