Two Kinds of Homeowners

Feb 23, 2012 | Information

As someone with no real knowledge of the world of heating and cooling I am always learning new things. My expertise has been in customer service and I enjoy working with people. I have also learned a lot about the human condition. One of the many things I have learned is that when it comes to homeowners we fall into TWO categories. The first are the ones that want everything to work and perform the best it can and have no problem calling someone for help. The second group just goes along in life never giving a second thought to how things work or making an effort to maintain anything. The good news is we LOVE both types of folks!

The fact is that even though we live in a throw away society your Heating and Cooling system is supposed to last 10 to 15 years under normal conditions. So if you are in group ONE, we see you twice a year and keep your system worry free. Your warranty is maintained and you have little or no downtime. If you are in group TWO we will see you sooner or later, usually on the coldest night or hottest day. You will say “but it’s only a few years old” (that means 10) and when asked if you have had regular maintenance you say “changed the filter every year” ( that does not count). The fact is your Heating and Cooling system is not a coffee maker or blender you can run down to Bed bath and Beyond and replace. Then again that BEYOND section could have one.

One of the biggest mistakes anybody can make is to lose track of time. It’s easy to do in the busy world we live in. Summer becomes Fall, 2010 becomes 2012 and then you think “Is the furnace supposed to make that noise?” We try and relieve folks of this concern with direct mail pieces as reminders and direct phone calls to remind folks its time to get a check up. We feel that it is just as important to take care of your heating and cooling system as it is to maintain your car.

So the next time you change the oil in your car, give your HVAC system a thought, then give us a call. It could save you a lot of money in the long run.
